Second Birth

I never loved the pleasant earth
So much as since my second birth.
The sky forget-me-not's soft blue
Seems bits of Heaven shining through.
The golden buttercup's biright face
Proclaims the glory of His grace.
His precious Blood that washes all
The red maples in the fall
My sis forever far away.
As white as hawthorn buds in May
The saint's new, shining, linen dress
The robe of His own righteousness.
I touch the pansy's pruple face
His kingly majesty I trace.
Green pastures breathe refreshments, rest.
And sweet communion on His breast;
While bird song from the orchard trees
Suggest celestial harmonies.
I see in river, hill, and glen
New charms since I've been born again!

Only Three Minutes!

I went to see a young man who was near his end. Seeing the time was short, I came at once to the all-important subject:  "Friend, I see that you are very ill, are you prepared for what is before you?" "Wish I only were," he replied, giving me a look of dispair. "If I could but be spared for two or three weeks I believe I might be prepared, but the doctor tells me I cannot live but for only a few hours probably." "Three weeks,"I said, "why do you want three weeks?" Then he went on to give me his idea of preparation and conversion, and added, "All of which must occupy some weeks." "What!" I exclaimed. "Three weeks in order to be saved? Let me tell you that you may be saved, yes, in three minutes," and so saying I opened the Word of God and read, "As many as received him to them he gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." Inviting Jesus into his heart, he was saved instantly! Shortly, he went into eternity thanking and praising the Lord for saving him!

The Right Side

The self same net, and the self same lake,
And it seemed there was nothing left to take;
But the Master said, "Let down your net!"
What happened the world can never forget
Ah, the story thrills us even yet!
So many the fish, yet the net did not break.

Thus spake the Master, "The right side try,"
And the men who had watched the night go by
With never a fish for their patient quest,
With never an hour for needed rest,
Gave heed at once to their Lord's behest,
And the miracle saw the great supply!

When blessings seem scarce, and growing less,
And our trying results in fruitlessness,
A right side still is surely at hand,
I f the heart, attent for the Lord's command,
But follow the course that He has planned,
Ah, then shall we see how His hand can bless.

I Feel It In the Air!

I know it's Easter time again,
I feel it in the air.
The breath of spring with woodsy tang,
And new life everywhere.
And spring glides on with magic touch
O'er mountain side and glen;
And wakens all sleeping plants
For Easter time again.

The brooklets leap from rock to rock,
As if in joyful play;
The flowers peep from darkened tombs
To welcome Easter Day.
The birds are swinging on the boughs,
And trill in ecstasy;
They seem to show the world's great joy
Of Easter mystery.

Why should we dread the thing called death?
It's just an open door,
Where all within is love and peace
And joy forever more.
"Because I live, you shall live,"
We hear the Savior say.
Let's consecrate our lives anew,
On this glad Easter Day.

Beside The Cross

Opress'd with noonday's scorching heat,
To yonder Cross I flee;
Beneath its shelter take my seat;
No shade like this for me!

Beneath that Cross clear waters burst,
A fountain sparkling, free;
And there I quench my desert thirst;
No spring like this for me!

A stranger here, I pitch my tent
Beneath this spreading tree;
Here shall my pilgrim life be spent;
No Home like this for me!

For burdened ones a resting-place
Beside that Cross I see;
Here I cast off my weariness;
No rest like this for me!
