My Influence

A careful father I ought to be;
For a little child follows me.
I dare not go astray.
For I fear they'll go the selfsame way.
Not once can I escape their eyes;
Whate'er they see me do, they try.
Like me they say they want to be --
That little child who follows me.
They think that I am good and fine:
Believes in every word of mine.
The base in me they must not see,
The little child who follows me.
I must remember as I go,
Through summer sun and winter snow;
I'm building for the years to be
That little child who follows me.

"Stir Me, Lord!"

Stir me! oh, stir me Lord, I care not how,
But stir my heart in passion for the world!
Stir me to give, to go -- but most to pray;
Stir 'til the blood-red banner be un-furled.
What if our hands are busy lie --
Lands where the Cross was never lifted high.

"Stir me! Oh, sir me, Lord! Thy heart was stirred
By love's intensest fire, 'til Thou did'st give
Thine only Son, Thy best loved One,
E'en to the dreadful Cross, that I might live.
Stir me to give myself so back to Thee,
That Thou canst give Thyself again, through me."

Carrying A Brother

The crossing was muddy, the street was wide
And water was running on either side;
The wind whistled past with a bitter moan
As I wended my weary way alone.
In crossing the street I chanced to pass
A boy in the arms of a wee, toddling lass  --
"Isn't he heavy, my sweet little mother?"
"Oh, no," she replied, "he's my baby brother."
Thy load may be heavy, thy road may be long.
The winds of adversity bitter and strong
But the way will seem brighter if ye Love one another,
The burden will be light if ye carry a Brother.

Old Glory

Here's to the Red of it;
There's not a thread of it,
No, not a shred of it
In all the spread of it
   From foot to head.
But heroes bled for it,
Faced steel and lead for it,
Precious blood was shed for it,
   Bathing it Red.

Here's to the White of it;
Thrilled by the sight of it
Who knew the right of it,
But feels the might of it,
   Through day and night:
Womanhood's care for it
Made manhood dare for it;
Purity's pray'r for it
   Kept it so White.

Here's to the Blue of it:
Heavenly view of it,
Star-spangled hue of it,
Honesty's due of it,
   Constant and true.
Here's to the whole of it,
Stars, stripes, and pole of it;
Here's to the soul of it:
   Red, White and Blue.

When the Outlook is Dark Try The Uplook

When the outlook is dark, try the uplook;
   These words hold a message of cheer,
Be glad while repeating them over,
   And smile when the shadows appear.
Above and beyond stands the Master.
   He sees what we do for His sake,
He will never fail nor forsake us,
   "He knoweth the way that we take."

When the outlook is dark, try the uplook;
   The uplook of faith and good cheer,
The love of the Father surrounds us,
   He knows when the shadows are near.
Be brave, then and keep the eyes lifted up,
   And smile on the dreariest day.
His promise will glow in the darkness.
   His light will illumine the way.
