The Dying Fire!

A certain Sunday School superintendent felt very keenly the absence from the SS class of a once faithful member.  After some time had passed, he called at the home of the absentee and found him sitting before the fire.

Somewhat startled by the intrusion, the member hastily placed a chair for the visitor, and waited for the expected rebuke.  But not a word did the superintendent say. Taking a seat before the fireplace, he silently took the tongs and lifting a glowing coal from the midst of its fellows, laid it by itself on the hearthstone.  Remaining painfully silent, he watched the blaze die out.  Then the truant murmured: “you needn’t say a word: I’ll be there next Sunday morning.”

That’s want it is like to those who were once active in the Lord’s work, but for some reason (probably not an acceptable excuse) seem to have quit coming and separated themselves from the Lord’s Church.  They let coal sit and die out because there is no one else there to keep the fire burning.  Not only are they separated from the other coals, but they are where there is no fire.

The church is the place to come and refurbish the fire. Come to where the master starter is, and get your fires rekindled. They say that “Seven lonely days makes on weak.”  Well, “Seven lonely days without the fellowship of the Lord and His Church makes one spiritually weak.”

How bright is your fire burning????
